Cross-Platform App Development with Xamarin.Forms

Speaker: Alberto Medeiros, Software Engineer
Meeting Topic: Cross-Platform App Development with Xamarin.Forms

Join us this month as we talk about using Xamarin.Forms for cross-platform app development. Learn why developers use Xamarin to build mobile apps and how it compares to other native solutions such as Swift and Java. We’ll also show some practical use-cases to help jumpstart your development in Xamarin.Forms. At this meeting we will detail both Xamarin basics and some more advanced tips and tricks.

And as always, if you want input into the next topic or would like to speak at a meeting, message the Bit-Wizards Facebook Page. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Extensions and Apps – Swift

Extensions are an extremely powerful language feature in Swift. It allows you to add new functionality to existing classes and structs. This may sound simple but it opens up opportunity for a lot of tricks and techniques that make it easier to make great code.

We’ll spend some time learning about some extension tricks and techniques including:

1. How to organize your code with extensions
2. Providing default protocol implementations
3. Preserving default struct initializer
4. Providing conditional functionality

Don’t worry if you’re never worked with extensions before, we’ll cover the basics too! Bring a laptop to follow along.

Pizza, Swift Fundamentals, and WWDC

Welcome to our first meetup! During this meeting we’ll be doing the following:

Meet, Greet, and Eat Pizza
— We’ll spend a little time getting to know each other and enjoy some pizza provided by Rural Sourcing, Inc.

Swift Fundamentals
— Bring your MacBook as we take some time to go through a little code and learn some of the basics of Swift.
— This will be great for beginners though I’m hoping that some of our experienced Swift developers can learn and contribute to the conversations.

WWDC Announcements and Info
— Let’s spend a little time talking about the announcements that were made at WWDC and how they’ll impact us.
— Ask questions about my experiences at WWDC 2018.

Please come in via the rear entrance behind the building. See the attached image for its location and where you can park.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Get involved in the Bitcoin economy.

The Meetup will fall on the second Wednesday of each month. The location will change from month to month. The Meetup begins at 6:00 PM, and will last for an hour or more.

We will start with directed instruction for those new to Bitcoin. Everyone is encouraged to bring a smartphone, a tablet, a laptop, or all of the above. Everyone will learn how to download a Bitcoin wallet, send and receive bitcoins, and purchase Bitcoin from exchanges. After the directed instruction period, the Meetup will be opened up for question and answer, and general discussion.

Food and drink will be available for purchase before, during, and after the Meetup. Attendees are encouraged to enjoy the fare on offer, so as to support our local merchants. We look forward to seeing you all!

Nola Hack Night

A social gathering of the technical and tech-curious. Work on a side project, complain about javascript parsers, ask questions about programming homework, get help learning.

The meetup is very popular with generally more than 20 people per week. Because it’s every week, rain or shine, most people don’t RSVP. Don’t worry, come on by.

Drinks with Geeks

June’s Drinks with Geeks will be held at Alcove Bar! Join us for a beverage and chat about all things tech with the crew from Spark Tuscaloosa!
